Lazy Boy Snooze

I love reading. I truly love to read and escape into the world of the character and all the chaos and drama that only the protagonist can solve. Why is it that my beloved characters can fight demons; battle villains with superpowers; or save the world from total and utter dissemination and I am losing my capability of staying awake to read 2 chapters! Friends, I would like to formally introduce you to my nemesis:

THE LAZY BOY

Where only 6 months ago I was able to read for 1-2 hours with a comfort level of 7/10, I now can only stay awake for 20 minutes before falling asleep. I have fallen asleep while reading “Daughter of Smoke and Bone”, the terrible philosophy my work book club selected “Ishmael”( okay that deserved me falling asleep), “The Traitor Prince”, “Good Omens” and mostly likely more. Maybe this is a sign of age. Maybe this is a sign that I need to exercise and have endorphins in my blood in order to read. I am just taking the time to lament that my place of reading and solitude has become corrupted. Meet my new place where I have to read so I do not fall asleep:

Yes this is my awful dining room table. The chair is not comfortable. Picture me as one of those toddlers in that marshmallow experiment waiting and waiting to eat the marshmallow. I can be seen slumped down in the chair, sitting completely upright like a band student, and finally curley up into an almost fetal position as if daring myself to take a nap.

Cringe if you must, but this position has never succeeded in lulling me to sleep. Even though I really want to pat myself on the back I am sad because I really miss that lazy boy chair. I recall fond memories of plugging in an electric blanket and reading all cuddled up…..those were the good old days. Game over to that fantasy. As I write this I truly feel like an old lady...but I am willing to do whatever it takes to get my books read at this point. Maybe this is just a summer slump and I temporarily need to simply conquer this late night fatigue and carry on. If I must read at this sad excuse for a dining room  table than so be it. I am an individual who likes to ready at least 3 books at a time so I have had to come up with strategies to avoid this lazy boy chair for 2-3 hours. Of course you have heard that the dining table has proven the most successful. Other attempts include the couch (haha utter fail), reading while exercising (squats and planks work well for a few pages), and then reading while walking around. Am I the only strange person who is suffering from this? Where is the only place that you seem to fall asleep reading every time? Share below along with what books met this sad tragedy.
